Clara Barton, performed by Jessa Piaia

Clara Barton,Ms. Gilder Civil War nurse and founder of the American Red Cross also has Sherborn connections, having served as superintendent of the Sherborn Reformatory (now MCI Framingham), the first prison for women in the U.S. Jessa Piaia has performed Isabella Stewart Gardner and Susan B. Anthony, for us previously, both hugely successful programs. Jessa studied performance at London’s Oval House Theater and currently works at Harvard’s Schlesinger Library at Radcliffe Institute which specializes in the history of women in America.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Sherborn Arts Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
